I get such a rush from discovering new music, bands, artists – and even when it’s been around, if it’s new to me - it’s like nirvana. Music connects me to what’s current or what might be underground ready to burst into the mainstream, and by chance if it doesn’t go ‘pop,’ it’s like a little kept secret to those of us who relish it whether it’s playing on FM or not.
As I use music in this blog to chronicle how love’s lies have hurt, awakened and given me the strength to move on after a decade plus with someone, I’ll share the new tunes that are keeping my pulse up and out of the dumps. So, enough with the melancholy and on to the melodic, yeah? Let’s have at it:
- The Augustuna – Steal Your Heart – these guys have always played with conviction and passion. I’d love to be serenaded by them
- Bon Iver – Calgary – it’s one of the dreamiest, catchiest tunes, just beautiful
- The Decemberists – Down by the Water – like a semi-Irish folk chant mixed with a bit of Springsteen
- Mat Kearney – Hey Mama – if The Decemberists’ was like an Irish folk chant, this here Mat Kearny diddy is like a kids love rhyme that I so like ; )
- Anna Calvi – Desire – if you like Florence and the Machine, this is for you & me (this is a live version, the studio recording is cleaner of course)
- Bright Eyes – Ladder Song – a bit on the sad side, but full of emotion
